Roncalli Catholic Schools provides technology resources to students, faculty, and staff to promote the development of young men and women of competence, conscience, and compassion through an integrated academic, spiritual, and extracurricular program. It is expected that technology is to be used in a reasonable, ethical, moral, and legal manner in accordance with the mission statement, beliefs, and values of Roncalli Catholic Schools. The Internet is a global network connecting millions of computers and is an environment of independent, unregulated resources that can change daily. Parents/Guardians are responsible to provide a safe environment for students while using technology at home for school-related work. Parents/Guardians also are encouraged to:
● set rules for student use at home.
● allow use in common areas of the home where student use can easily be monitored.
● demonstrate a genuine interest in student’s use of devices.
● reinforce the idea that the device is a productivity tool to support learning, rather than used as a form of entertainment.
● become familiar with Internet safety resources such as:

Roncalli High School provides an email account to each individual student to facilitate communications between administrators, teachers, and students. Students should check their school email account at least daily as this will be the primary method of communication between teachers and students. Students are expected to treat their issued email account as a professional account, not a personal account. Students are discouraged from using their issued Roncalli High School email accounts for non-school-related works and other personal means. Students may not use their issued Roncalli High School email account to create accounts for 3rd party services.
Issued Roncalli High School email accounts come with but are not limited to the following benefits:

To eliminate distractions and boost student’s engagement and focus on their learning, the use of cell phones or smartphones in class and the library is prohibited unless expressly permitted by the teacher. Students may not use cell phones or smartphones in class as substitutes for laptops. Students have the option of bringing their own laptop or requesting to use a Roncalli High Schools’ Chromebook. In the extreme circumstance that you find yourself without a device and/or adapter, you may come to the Main Office and receive a loaner device and/or adapter if available.
Cell phones/smartphones must be on silent or turned off and put away during class. Students may not answer calls or texts during class time. A phone is available in the Main Office to students who need to contact their parents/guardians. Parents/Guardians may call the Main Office if they need to speak with their child.
A phone is available in the Main Office to students who need to contact their parents or legal guardians. Parents or legal guardians may call the Main Office if they need to speak with their child.
Cell phones or smartphones are portable devices capable of capturing images. Due to that fact, they are strictly prohibited from being used in locker rooms, restrooms and athletic trainer’s room. No recording of any type without consent is permitted.
1. First violation – phone immediately turned in to the teacher or Main Office – the student can pick up the phone after school.
2. Second violation – phone turned in to the Main Office – the student will bring the cell phone to the Main Office before 8 a.m. and can pick it up after 3 p.m. for a period of time to be determined by administration.

Roncalli High School deletes all student’s credentials, email addresses, etc. two months upon leaving or after graduation. It is the student’s responsibility to transfer any documents or files they may need from their Roncalli High Schools’ account to their personal account. Failure to do so will result in lost data. Information on how to transfer school data to your personal accounts will be emailed to your Roncalli High School account by IT before your Roncalli High School account is removed. We are not responsible for lost data due to the email account being deleted.
Roncalli High School does not have control of information on the Internet. Therefore, information on the Internet may include material that is illegal, defamatory, inaccurate, potentially objectionable or against the standards of Roncalli High School. Roncalli High School firmly believes that the valuable information and interaction available on the Internet far outweighs the possibility that users may obtain material that is not consistent with Roncalli High School’s educational goals.
Roncalli High School utilizes Internet content filtering in accordance with the federally mandated Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA). All devices on the Roncalli High School network will be monitored. Attempting to disable or bypass Internet content filters, including using or attempting to use proxies/VPN to access sites that would otherwise be restricted, is not permitted and will result in disciplinary action. Restrictions on the network and computers will block certain functions. Any attempt to bypass these restrictions will be a violation of the Roncalli High School Technology Use Policy and Agreement and appropriate disciplinary action will be taken.
Parents/Guardians are responsible for monitoring student Internet use when off campus and at home.
Note: This policy may be changed and/or updated at any given time without warning. When that occurs, an updated policy will need to be signed by parents and students.
CHROMEBOOKS USE
Roncalli Catholic Schools provides Chromebooks to students who have requested to use one. Students may bring and use their own devices in accordance with the Bring Your Own Device Policy & Agreement (See the BYOD Policy & Agreement for more info). Issued Chromebooks are the property of Roncalli Catholic Schools and their intended use is for educational purposes only and for daily school use. Therefore, students are responsible for charging the Chromebook before the start of each school day and bringing both their Chromebooks and charger to all their classes, unless specifically instructed not to by their teacher.
CHROMEBOOKS OPERATING SYSTEM (OS) & WORKSPACE INTEGRATION
Chromebooks run Chrome OS, Google’s operating system. Therefore, Roncalli Catholic Schools’ Chromebooks have been configured to integrate with Google Workplace for Education (G-Suite). G-Suite includes Google Docs (word processing), Google Sheets (spreadsheets), Google Slides (presentations), Drawings, Sites and Forms. A school-issued email account is needed in order to use a school-issued Chromebook.
CHROMEBOOK ASSIGNMENT
A request must be made when registering for classes and parents/guardians and students must sign the Chromebook/School Issued Device Policy and Agreement before a Chromebook is assigned to a student. A late request may result in a delay or no available Chromebook.
IN SCHOOL USE
Connect your Chromebook to the student Wifi by using your network credentials (Roncalli High School email and password). Students must not use their Chromebooks in class as a distraction to either play games or participate in any other kind of activities that do not pertain to the class.
SIGN IN TO YOUR CHROMEBOOK
Use your school issued email address (example: [email protected]) and password to sign in. Request your password from the IT Administrator and carbon copy (cc) your building principal, if you do not remember your password.
Note: You will not be able to sign into your Chromebook without using your school issued email address. Students who did not request to use a Roncalli issued Chromebook will not be able to sign in until granted access to do so per the IT Administrator.
AT HOME USE
Students may connect their assigned Chromebooks to their home Wifi to successfully complete and submit assignments or to retrieve, access, etc. educational content used in classes. Roncalli Catholic Schools is not responsible for providing home technical support (contact your Internet provider if you are having Internet connectivity issues). Chromebook policies, procedures and all other applicable policies bind students wherever they use their Chromebooks.
RETURNING A CHROMEBOOK
Students who no longer wish to use a school-issued Chromebook must return their assigned Chromebooks and all school-purchased accessories and complete the Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) Policy and Agreement Form 2024-2025.
Students withdrawing or graduating from Roncalli High School must return their Chromebook and all school-purchased accessories on their last day of attendance (or a date determined by administration) to a place and time determined by administration.
If upon inspection of the device, there is evidence of abuse, neglect or intentional damage, the parent/guardian and/or student will be charged a fee for needed repairs, not to exceed the replacement cost of the Chromebook.
Failure to turn in the Chromebook and accessories will result in the parent/guardian and/or student being charged the full replacement cost. If payment is not received, the matter will be turned over to a collection agency. Any Chromebook not returned will be considered stolen property and law enforcement agencies will be notified.
At the end of every school year all school issued devices are to be returned to Roncalli High School so that updates and cleaning may be done. Every effort will be made to return the same device to the same student the following school year.
GENERAL CARE & USER'S RESPONSIBILITIES
NETWORK & SECURITY
Roncalli Catholic Schools is responsible for providing on-campus Internet access and content filtering. However, there is no guarantee that the network will be up and running 100% of the time. Students will not be penalized if the network is down and a completed assignment cannot be accessed for class projects, presentations, etc. as this type of network outage will affect all students and staff in the school building.
Roncalli Catholic Schools utilizes Internet content filtering in accordance with the federally mandated Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA). All Chromebooks will have all Internet activity protected and monitored by Roncalli Catholic Schools.
Attempting to disable or bypass Internet content filters, including using or attempting to use proxies/VPNs is not permitted and will result in disciplinary action. Student use of the Internet is restricted to the Student Wifi SSID and monitored on all devices.
Restrictions on the network and computers will block certain functions. Any attempt to bypass these restrictions will be a violation of Roncalli Catholic Schools’ Technology Use Policy and Agreement and appropriate disciplinary action will be taken:
● Banned from bringing or using any electronic devices on the school grounds for a period of time. Electronic devices include cell phones.
● Suspension of Roncalli High School technology (equipment and network) for a period of time.
● Detention, in school and/or out of school suspension depending on the severity of the violation.
● Involvement of law enforcement-disciplinary action and/or civil or criminal liability.
● Libel may result in legal action.
● Payments for damages and repairs.
Parents/guardians are responsible for monitoring student Internet use when off campus and at home.
PRIVACY
All files stored on the Roncalli Catholic Schools G Suite accounts or network are subject to regular review and monitoring for responsible use. Internet history and email checks may occur at the discretion of the Roncalli Catholic Schools Administration. Roncalli Catholic Schools has the right, at any time, to monitor and preserve any communications that use Roncalli's networks in any way, including data, Internet use, and network traffic, to determine proper use.
Students must not expect any privacy with the content of a Roncalli Catholic Schools’ issued device, regardless of whether that use is for Roncalli Catholic Schools related or personal purposes, other than as specifically provided by law.
CHROMEBOOK REPAIRS
Chromebooks that are broken or fail to work properly must be reported to the main office or to the technology person so that the issue can be documented and collected for repair (if necessary). A loaner will be assigned if available. Students will be responsible for caring for the loaner as if it were their own, and are subject to charges for damages, theft, or loss.
The student will be notified when repairs are completed and the device will be ready for pick up in the Main Office. Students must return loaner devices when their repaired device is ready for pick up in the Main Office.
In case of needing repair due to abuse or neglect, there will be a fee for needed repairs, not to exceed the replacement cost of the Chromebook. The school may also refuse to provide a loaner or reissue a Chromebook for repeated or intentional damages and the parent/guardian may incur additional charges.
Note: This policy may be changed and/or updated at any given time without warning. When that occurs, an updated policy will need to be signed by parents and students.
Chromebooks Use Policy & agreement Form
The purpose of this policy is to establish rules and requirements that must be met by all high school students and guests who bring personal devices and/or are using the Roncalli High School wireless network. The following standards will ensure that the wireless network is not negatively impacted and that all resident systems remain secure and intact. The privilege of connecting to our wireless network is provided for the purpose of educating students and conducting school business.
I understand that this device is my personal property and does not belong to Roncalli High School. As such, I understand that Roncalli High School can assume no responsibility for my device(s) and will be held blameless in the event of theft, damage or loss. Furthermore, I understand that technical support will be limited to the provision of the wireless network password (if any) for Internet access and that all other support needs are my own responsibility.
I understand that my BYOD device will only be allowed to connect to the Student Wifi and is forbidden to connect to any Hotspot, VPN, phone tether, or any network other than the Student Wifi while on school grounds.
I understand that the responsibility for the care of the device AND my behavior while using my own device(s) belong solely to me.
Use of personal devices on school grounds and/or access to the wireless network is contingent upon prudent and responsible use. More specifically the undersigned agrees to:
Roncalli High School is responsible for providing on-campus Internet access and content filtering. However, there is no guarantee that the network will be up and running 100 percent of the time. In instances that the network is down, Roncalli High School is not responsible for lost or missing data.
Students will not be penalized if the Roncalli High School network is down and a completed assignment cannot be accessed for class projects, presentations, etc., as this type of network outage will affect all students and staff in the school building.
Roncalli High School utilizes Internet content filtering in accordance with the federally mandated Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA). All devices on the Roncalli High School network will be monitored.
Note: This policy may be changed and/or updated at any given time without warning. When that occurs, an updated policy will need to be signed by parents and students.

Although any device will work, Roncalli High School STRONGLY RECOMMENDS that students have laptops versus tablets. In the case of iPads, they are not supported on the Roncalli network. We recommend bringing a supported device or request to use a Roncalli device.
Roncalli is a mix of Windows and Gsuite environment-based, it is important to note that if a student has a Mac, all assignments must be created on a platform that is compatible for the teacher to be able to view the work when submitted electronically. For example, a paper cannot be submitted in Pages or a presentation cannot be submitted in Keynote because those programs are specific to Mac and cannot be viewed on the teachers’ Windows-based computers. However, a student could create and share the paper using a web-based program like Google Docs without any compatibility issues. Also, if the student is doing a presentation and wants to project something directly from a Mac, the student would need to supply the appropriate adapter in order to hook up to the projection system in the classroom (adapter from Mac to VGA).
For best results, we recommend the following:
CPU - Dual/Multi-Core Processor, 2GHz or higher (Intel Core i3, i5, or i7)
Memory - 4 GB
Hard Drive - 250 GB or more
USB - multiple USB 2.0 ports
Video Resolution of at least 1024x768
Video - Video Card with 128 MB or more
Wireless - 802.11g/n
Operating System - Windows 10 or newer or Mac OSX or newer
Battery - Recommend extended battery or backup battery if possible
Chromebooks are also an acceptable device option (recommended to have 2 GB of RAM or greater)
Roncalli High School requires the use of antivirus software on all devices with up-to-date virus definitions. Below are two free options if you choose to not purchase antivirus software.
Avast! Antivirus - Avast! Home is a free antivirus program that will protect against viruses and spyware (for Windows, Mac, and Android Mobile).
AVG Antivirus - AVG is a popular free antivirus program that will protect against viruses and spyware (for Windows and Android Mobile).
Note: Please be aware that Windows 7 is no longer supported by Microsoft. We recommend upgrading to the latest Operating System as soon as possible.
Although any other browsers will work, we recommend students to install Google Chrome because it works best when using Google Workspace for Education Apps.
Google Meet is the official live meeting platform used by teachers when hosting synchronous meetings with students. To provide maximum flexibility for teachers hosting Google Meets, RONCALLI CATHOLIC SCHOOLS recently updated the permissions for Google Meet for our users. These changes ensure that:
● Students cannot enter Google Meets before a teacher is present.
● Teachers always can act as the Host in a Google Meet.
● Students cannot rejoin a Google Meet once the teacher has left.
The following FAQs provide additional information for parents about the use of Google Meet for synchronous interactions between teachers and students.
Teachers may record all synchronous interactions with students. When a teacher records a Google Meet, the recording is saved in the teacher’s classroom Google Drive. The teacher will be able to provide a link to students that they can use to view the recording. Teachers record Meetings to ensure students who are not able to participate live have access to the content and to provide an accurate record of the events of the meeting.
Yes, Roncalli Catholic Schools requires parental consent to record meetings with students present. Your child’s school should provide an electronic permission form that can be used to provide consent.
Teachers are required to keep recordings of synchronous sessions with students for a minimum of seven days. Teachers may choose to keep recordings longer but will be asked to delete all recordings at the end of the school year.
Recordings will be shared with students via Google Classroom or the teacher’s primary communication platform.
No. Teachers will only share recordings with students that belong specifically to the classroom of which the meeting took place. Videos will be shared in such a way that the viewer must login with a RONCALLI CATHOLIC SCHOOLS account before accessing the video.
In general, teachers will meet with groups of students or whole classes of students through Google Meet. If a one-on-one meeting is needed, the teacher will request that a parent or guardian also be present during the meeting.
Students cannot create a Google Meet session in the Roncalli Catholic Schools G Suite domain.
Students can only join Google Meet sessions created and shared by teachers.
A teacher must first join the Meet before a student can.
Teachers can invite external users like a guest speaker to a Google Meet. The teacher must admit this external user before s/he can join the Google Meet session. If students share the URL of a Google Meet with an external user, the external user cannot join the Google Meet session unless admitted by the teacher. Students do not have the ability to admit external users to RONCALLI CATHOLIC SCHOOLS Google Meets.
Because of the security settings currently in place, only RONCALLI CATHOLIC SCHOOLS users can join Meets created by RONCALLI CATHOLIC SCHOOLS teachers. This means that your child needs to sign in to Google Meet with his or her RONCALLI CATHOLIC SCHOOLS account before joining the Meeting. For students with Chromebooks provided by RONCALLI CATHOLIC SCHOOLS, the easiest way to participate in a Meet is on their RONCALLI CATHOLIC SCHOOLS Chromebook. This ensures that the student will be signed in with the correct G Suite account before attempting to join the Meet. If joining a Meet on a personal device, make sure any personal Google or Gmail accounts are signed out, then login to Meet with the student’s RONCALLI CATHOLIC SCHOOLS Google account.
